さて、今日の単語は atomy 。
骨格のことです。

この語は anatomy が an atomy と捉えられたことからできたもの。
anatomy はラテン語の anatomia が由来で、
これはギリシア語で up の意味の ana- と、
a cutting の意味の tomia から構成されたものです。
tomia の語源は、to cut の意味のインド-ヨーロッパ語族の語根 tem- です。

tem- は epitome や contemplate の語源でもあるんですね。
典型や熟考など、物事を細かく切って重要な点を分析する様子を想像すると、
なんとなくこの理由がわかる気がします。
